Well having tried a variety of searches with Del.icio.us I have concluded it is useful enough but I don't really see it as likely to supplant LC Subject Headings anytime in the immediate future although no doubt there are those who would disagree with me on that.

That said, both have their place and uses and its good to have access to a variety of search systems.

Podcasts

Now we look at podcasts. Actually I've been doing podcasting for quite some time as they are a useful way of getting something you might actually want to listen to on the train rather than the more random hit-and-miss of just turning on the radio. This is one piece of modern technology I have really taken to. Basically gives you the broadcast you want but and the time of your choosing.

Well it seems its been 2 years since my last post so I can't really be accused of rushing this. There have been a few changes to the web in that time and I have just been fiddling around with RSS feeds with Google reader, subbing on and off. I seem to have banked up a few items to read in the last 2 years.

Some things haven't changed too much though. Geelong have won the AFL flag again this year.

This part was a bit of a blast. The mag is of course available for sale. Its really classy and the articles about Gerry and Kent are long overdue. And factual of course!

And so we come to Flickr. I don't own a digital camera which will somewhat limit my posting activities, but it clearly has uses as a source for obtaining a wide variety of photos via the net which could obviously come in handy.

Tagging & Technorati

Ok, I've just been looking through the Tagging section and I have mixed thoughts on the whole thing. I can see where it has its uses and is obviously quite flexible, informal and doesn't require any advanced training, but I must admit I have a liking for the more formalised, systematic methods traditionally used in libraries which encourage consistency and standardisation.

There is probably room enough for both methods to exist side by side though and in the end I suppose a lot is going to depend on your audience and personal preference.

The Technorati site looked like it had its uses for searching for a number of subjects, but much of it seemed to be just links to pop topics of little real interest or use to me so I'm not sure just how much I would really use it.

Well having finally taken a look at RSS feeds and newsreaders I can see where they can be useful for filtering out the info that one actually wants to read from the sea of irrelevant (to me) data that gets thrown at us via the net. Could prove to be quite a useful tool as such.

Well, it took a few weeks but I finally managed to figure out how to link my blog to the sandbox and to subscribe to RSS feeds on the google reader.

All very entertaining stuff actually and it does explain stuff I have seen library users doing.

#4 Wikis - So thats a wiki

Well as I look over the wonderful world of wikis I find myself thinking that I've actually used any number of wikis on many occasions but not actually given any real thought as to what that particular information format might be called.

Now I know. Quite a user friendly format actually and it seems to lend itself well to general browsing although I could see that the lack of a formal, standard structure might not be to everyones liking, especially if time was short and a very specific item was being sought.

This is my post. Nothing particularly profound to say, which won't stop me from saying something anyway.
Geelong won the AFL flag on Saturday. Finally. Worth waiting 44 years to see though.
